Colonoscopy, prep, scheduling, and insurance — answered for patients across Fresno and the Central Valley.

Office & scheduling

Where is your gastroenterology office located in Fresno?
Our office is at 7121 N Whitney Ave, Fresno, CA 93720 — in northeast Fresno near Whitney and Herndon, with easy access from Highway 41 and Highway 168.
Do you serve patients outside Fresno?
Yes. We see patients from across the Central Valley including Clovis, Madera, Visalia, Selma, Sanger, Reedley, and Kerman.
How do I schedule an appointment with a gastroenterologist?
Call us at (559) 299-9395 or use our online appointment request form. Most patients can be scheduled within 1–2 weeks. We accept most major insurance plans.
What insurance do you accept?
We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicare. Call our office at (559) 299-9395 to verify coverage for your specific plan before your visit.
What does a gastroenterologist treat?
Gastroenterologists specialize in the digestive system — esophagus, stomach, intestines, colon, liver, and pancreas. We focus on colon cancer screening, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, upper endoscopy (EGD), and stool-based screening tests.

Colonoscopy & prep

When should I get my first colonoscopy?
Average-risk adults should start screening colonoscopies at age 45. If you have a family history of colon cancer or polyps, inflammatory bowel disease, or symptoms like rectal bleeding or a change in bowel habits, you may need to start earlier — call (559) 299-9395 to discuss.
How long does a colonoscopy take?
The procedure itself usually takes 20–45 minutes. Plan on being at our Fresno facility for about 2–3 hours total: check-in, IV sedation, the procedure, and recovery. You'll need a driver to take you home.
Are you awake during a colonoscopy?
No. We use IV sedation (typically propofol) so you are comfortably asleep for the entire procedure. Most patients don't remember anything about it and wake up in recovery feeling rested.
How much does a colonoscopy cost in Fresno?
For most insured patients, a screening colonoscopy is covered at 100% with no out-of-pocket cost under the Affordable Care Act. Diagnostic colonoscopies are subject to your normal copay or deductible. We verify your benefits before scheduling.
What can you not eat 5 days before a colonoscopy?
Starting 5 days before, avoid high-fiber foods: nuts, seeds, popcorn, raw fruits and vegetables, whole grains, brown rice, beans, lentils, corn, and anything with skins or hulls. Stick to a low-fiber diet of white bread, white rice, plain pasta, well-cooked peeled vegetables, tender meats, and eggs.
What can I eat the day before a colonoscopy?
Clear liquids only — no solid food. That includes water, clear broth, apple or white grape juice, plain coffee or tea (no milk), Jell-O and popsicles in yellow, orange, or green, and sports drinks. Avoid anything red, purple, or blue, and anything with milk or pulp.
Why can't I have red, purple, or blue liquids before my colonoscopy?
Red, purple, and blue dyes can stain the lining of the colon and look like blood during the procedure, making it harder for your doctor to see clearly. That can lead to a false alarm — or a repeat colonoscopy.
What can I eat after my colonoscopy?
Start with light, easy-to-digest foods: water, clear broth, crackers, toast, plain rice, applesauce, and bananas. Most patients return to a normal diet the next day. If a polyp was removed, your doctor may ask you to avoid nuts, seeds, popcorn, and alcohol for a few days.
Where can I get a detailed prep guide?
We publish a full day-by-day colonoscopy prep guide with food tables for what to eat and avoid 5 days before, 2 days before, the day before, and after your procedure. Visit /colonoscopy-prep on our site or call (559) 299-9395 with questions.

Take the first step. We'll guide you through the rest.
